There are stones that tell something other than beauty. Stones that carry in them a breath of nature, a form of raw calm, a trace of altitude and mineral silence. French quartz belongs to this discreet and precious category. A unique gem from our mountains, shaped by passionate artisans who work with absolute respect for matter.
Quartz extracted in France does not resemble any other stone. It is born in the Alps, often in difficult areas where only a few people take the time – and the risk – to explore. It is said that it is sometimes necessary to venture into the « Furnaces » Alpine, these secret cavities lined with crystals. These are almost unreal places, immortalized in a report dedicated to the Chambéry region: a world of raw light, buried under metres of rock and snow.
This quartz is picked up by hand, by enthusiasts who wait to melt snow to reach the heights. Nothing is mechanized. Nothing is industrial. Only the knowledge of reliefs, geology and seasons allows us to know where to look. It is a goldsmith job before even arriving at the workshop.
And when these crystals reach our lapidary, they encounter a rare look. A craftsman of demanding precision, with what is called "the compass in the eye". He is a mountain man, guided by patience, calmness and deep respect for the stones he sees born in altitude. He cuts every quartz alone, stone by stone, with an almost meditative awareness of the right gesture. Nothing is left to chance. Each facet adjusts with an accuracy that is immediately recognized when the stone siluminates.
French quartz offers a unique natural diversity: some crystals are exceptionally clear, others contain fine inclusions, such as traces of frozen clouds, mist or lines that evoke miniature landscapes. These singularities make them precious in the eyes of Almarose Workshop. They're never standardized. Never interchangeable. They each speak their own language.
French quartz also carries a responsible dimension which naturally accords with our commitment. He's not going through the world. It does not depend on massive extraction. He was born in our mountains, in small quantities, and he was carved in a French workshop. A humble, local stone that offers a soft alternative to more classic gems.
At Almarose, we choose each quartz for its personality. Some inspire a ring, others a pendant or a carved piece. The stone leads, the creation follows. This is the most respectful way to work with a material that comes directly from nature.
Wearing French quartz means carrying a mountain fragment. It is to keep with oneself a matter shaped by nature and revealed by the human hand. It is to choose a sincere stone, rare, born from the precise gesture of a passionate craftsman.

His will is to imagine and create the jewel you dream of, respecting the environment and every human being who participates in his making.
